"When interviewing for a position as a communications manager, you will be asked primarily about your communication and presentation skills. Employers will want to be sure you can handle their companies' internal and external communications. As a communications manager, you will be responsible for creating presentations and memos, ensuring all employees are up to date on changes within the company, and handling external communications to stakeholders and the public."
They told me they were asking every interviewee the same set of questions. Their questions were extremely specific to the position and the company. How would you communicate with other companies in the area to market our museum? How would you handle negative publicity, specifically related to Doris Duke? Other questions about my experience and how I could benefit their museum. They wanted to see how familiar I was with their museum and properties.
How would you approach creating a strategic communications plan for X, Y, Z scenarios and audiences?
Describe your experience with website design and management. / What is your experience with the department's subject matter (in this instance, it was the music school).
How soon could I start? Experience to date; Would I work abroad.
There weren't a ton of hard-hitting questions. There were mostly questions related to my background, work experience, how it relates to tourism, etc. I will say, if you're interviewing on the comms team, they LOVE agency experience. I think everyone on the team came from the agency side at one point or another.
Tell me about a time something has gone wrong. How did you fix it? How did you manage it with senior stakeholders? What was the outcome?
