This was for a role in the Toronto office. The salary range was $84-104K.
1) Screening call with recruiter
2) 45 minute interview with hiring manager
3) Take-home writing assignment (spent about 6-7 hours on this cumulatively)
4) "Final stage" - approximately 5 hours total, not including prep.
a) 1-hour portfolio presentation (2-3 case studies in-depth)
b) Four 45-minute 1:1 interviews with different stakeholders.
c) Debrief with recruiter.
In the screening call, when the recruiter detailed the interview process, they only said the final stage was a "portfolio presentation." They didn't mention these extra 1:1 interviews or how long it was. I only found out when I had made it to the final round.
I ended up withdrawing and not going through the final round, as the amount of prep required didn't match up with what they were offering. If I had known the full extent of this interview process from the beginning, I wouldn't have interviewed.
The recruiter and hiring manager were nice people, but this interview process is exploitative and violates boundaries. I landed a role for similar pay with 1/15 of the effort, in terms of hours put in.
If you're going to conduct interviews this way, be transparent. I'd also expect far higher compensation for such a rigorous process, even if we're "cheap Canadian labour".
