Terrible!! The beginning of the interview process was typical of what you'd expect: a couple rounds of phone interviews with tech leads. They asked a wide variety of questions that really got a fell for what you know. They liked me and advanced me on for hire.
Then came the final interview with the CTO. This is where hCentive clearly becomes a bad place to work for. The final interview is in-person and is really more of a formality to see the other person. However, right off the bat, one of the first things he wants to discuss was the Russian place that was recently brought down by a soda-can bomb. I told him I hadn't followed the news and heard of it. He tells me about the incident and wants to discuss methods for carrying out such a crime. I'm taken aback. This isn't my area of expertise nor what I'd consider proper for an interview.
I entertain this CTO of hCentive, in his appalling discussion of how one would go about killing people. He then directs the conversation all over the place, discussing the state of the world, places to travel, and many other things. I actually thought this was simply a formality and I was potentially making a friend. His conversation was good/thought-provoking, just so strange to have at an 'interview'. He never asked any technical questions at all.
The next day my recruiter informs me that they are not hiring me afterall. The CTO said I was unprofessional for mentioning my girlfriend. I haven't been this livid in a long time. From the man that wants to discuss BOMBS ON AN AIRPLANE, my mentioning of my girlfriend being a code is unprofessional. Unreal.
The only excuse I can think is that hCentive's CTO likes to play games. Perhaps it was all one big test to see if someone would ignore off-topic questions and stay on track. If so, then hCentive is really a terrible place to work. I would not want to work for a company where the C level directors are playing mind games and are out to get their staff. If it wasn't a test, then the CTO is really just a hypocrite and a jerk.
