They did ask me to explain why the internship would be valuable to me (as I was a graduate student at the time with several years of private sector work experience). That was a bit of a surprise for me, but not really hard to answer, the job market being what it is and the fact that it is difficult to get employment at a non profit with no non profit experiencce.
