Investment Banking Interviews

Investment Banking Interview Questions

Investment banking interviews are divided into early rounds and superdays. Expect your first round interview to be technical-heavy, so come ready to answer questions about accounting, valuation, and modeling. Though these interviews are quite technical, prepared candidates know that this is only half the battle. Make sure to also focus on preparing responses to fit questions that will highlight your disciplined, collaborative, and reliable work ethic.

I had to give the WACC for an Airport buyout, with little information - just the expected EBITDA and EBITDA leverage, and overall value of the project. The EBITDA leverage was 4x and EBITDA was $200m, overall project value was $1bn. No calculator was allowed.

The first interview was entirely behavioral. Background, why IB, why Barclays, then questions about a time I led a team, a time where a team encountered issues and how we handled them, how my background prepared me for banking, and to describe myself in a single word, which I backed up with work examples/situations. The 2nd interview was much more conversational. Questions included if I were the FED what am I thinking about right now and what would I do, choosing between a 2-year 2,000 per month fixed rate lease and 2-year lease with a floating rate tied to US GDP, am I only interviewing for banking and is there anywhere else I am talking to.
