      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at loanDepot (Los Angeles, CA) in Oct 2022

      Interview

Interview Process ----------------------- 4 rounds of interviews 1st round was a recruiter overview and interview. ----- This was your typical behavioral interview. very receptive and did do a good job asking about my experience over the entirety of my career. 2nd round was a video interview with the department head ----- This interview also went well, interviewer was able to asked pointed and succint questions, able to understand and potray what looked to be what was in the job description. Seemed to know and understand exactly what the position was looking for and what the organization needed. 3rd round was a panel with two highly technical people/ Director and Architects ----- This interview started out strong, unfortunately one of the interviewers joined halfway through, so was not there to hear the entire understanding and line of questioning prior. This made the interview a little harder as I had to reanswer questions, also cut into really having enough time to answer all the possible questions without feeling like pressed for time. 4th round was with managers of a few teams that would be at or below this position ------- This interview was a little concerning, the interviewers seemed to lack a technical understanding of the technologies they were looking to implement as well as were asking about. This made the interview frustrating because a question would be asked, an answer was given, but they weren't able to understand the answer. Summary ------------- All the rounds were informal interview process, no direct technical questions around specifics understanding of tech, no whiteboarding, systems design or coding questions. Mostly questions about how I was implementing current things in my current job. Overall I would say I was able to understand the needs and wants of the organization as well as what they were trying to do, but I didn't get a cohesive answers in line with the across the interviews. Concerning that a portion of the interviewers were not willing to accept their lack of knowledge in certain technical areas considering the position was specifically to implement new and un-used technologies and to guide the organization because that knowledge is not there currently. Reccomendations to HR/Interviewers -------- Accept the things you do know, if you only have a high level understanding, have a more technical person also join the interview to help ease or translate for the less technical colleagues. Ensure you have a set of questions to ask that are relevant to the role. Make sure the interviewers/interview process is cohesive and that requirements for the role are also reviewed and understood before interviewing. If you're going to ask systems design questions, allow for whiteboarding instead of just asking random untargeted questions, makes comphrension difficult on both sides of the interview.
