The questions asked were based on the assignment, rather than actual work experience, and expected you to be a full multi-national expert in a topic you were looking at for about a week. This was not an exercise to "see how you think", but an opportunity for the interviewers to show they are more experienced in their domain than you (which they are, and were from the start).
