Tell me a time you failed a project. Tell me a time where you could have communicated better during a project. Tell me a time where you had to put the customer's needs over operational needs; how did you balance that? Tell me a time where you didn't have time to appropriately plan a project. Tell me a time you had to go outside your comfort zone to make a project successful. (All questions were that type of questioning. They expect a STAR answer.)

The interview questions were standard; things like given the current environment how would you move things forward, or give me an example of when you were successful in ambiguous situation. The interviewers all had a standard playbook with each asking questions from a different section.
Give me an example of a time you faced a conflict with a coworker. How did you handle that?
Project Management related experience and qualifications. Clearly director was not so capable and shockingly assigned a leadership role.
HR questions included basics about location, work history, a chat about background checks and an open floor for questions about the company, and benefits. Links to benefit packages were sent in advance, which were very helpful. Hiring manager interview questions were mostly based on the "tell me about a time" model, with ample time to provide my feedback and tie my skills to the motivating question. Follow-ups from the hiring manager were supportive, constructive and well-thought out. This was a positive sign that this would be a good fit for me.
