I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at rex (Austin, TX) in Aug 2021
Interview
I applied through LinkedIn and was quickly contacted by a recruiter. She was very helpful and warm throughout the process.
The first screening was talking with the recruiter about the role and my experience. They have various projects in development so they let you know beforehand they are looking for people who are active and looking for a challenge.
The second interview was with the Software Architect, around 1 hour over the phone. We talked about my experience and the plans they had for the role. It was a very pleasant conversation but we dove into many details.
Next was a technical screening with Triplebyte. It covered back end and front end questions and lasted around 1.5 hours. They warn you that they don't rely on it too heavily. I don't know how I did but some questions felt easy and some came out of left field.
The next step was an onsite where we talked in more detail about which project I would be working on, overview of the architecture and some technical questions. They managed to make it a fun experience and they invited me to their monthly social event afterwards, along with other candidates. They gave the impression of being a cooperative company with strong values, which prioritizes people.
Finally, I did a 1-hour deep dive over the phone with a senior member. We went over my whole professional trajectory and I was asked some hard-hitting questions. We went over time because the conversation started flowing really well after a while.
Throughout the process, everyone seemed very smart, driven and kind. I was excited to take the job but ended up going with another company that would allow me to move around. This is a group of start ups that requires working closely on the product in its inception. I would've taken it were it not due to a family situation.
