      Senior Backend Developer Interview

      Sep 24, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Salt Lake City, UT
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at safeXai (Salt Lake City, UT) in Jul 2019

      Interview

First step is a phone interview where they are primarily checking you for cultural fit. If you are a concerned humanitarian, you're in. Second step is a video interview concerned with overall technical ability at a high level. Third is an in-house interview where you will need to prove you know what you are talking about. Depending on your demeanor, they may want an additional phone conversation. My advice is to be humble, ask questions such that you arrive at the desired solution in conjunction with the interviewer. They actually want confident self starters, but being overly confident will get you further scrutiny.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

During the in-house interview, I was asked to design an API that provided filtering capabilities for the data arriving from an external, high volume API. If this scares you, you shouldn't bother applying.

      Question 2

I got the interview through a headhunter, and this headhunter lead me to believe that they were preparing an offer after my second interview - the truth was that they had not made any decision. This lead to growing frustration which manifested itself by my contacting one of the interviewers in order to offer additional "justification" for hiring me. Anyone with a lot of interviewing experience knows that doing that is instant death - I knew that and got careless and both Banjo and I lost out.

Thank you for writing such a thoughtful review. We design the interview process to mirror the challenges we're solving at Banjo, and we're glad to hear that came through in your experience. As for the frustration - that is definitely something we did not design into our process. We welcome any additional feedback you would like to share, so feel free to send an email to recruiting@teambanjo.com. We wish you the best with your search.
