Really, we are. We are the largest producer of LNG in the United States. We own and operate two LNG facilities on the U.S. Gulf Coast. These massive facilities reliably and safely process billions of cubic feet of natural gas per day into LNG and load the liquid energy onto insulated ships that keep the product cold for their journeys around the world.
In 2016, we became the first company to ship LNG from a commercial facility in the contiguous United States. This cargo came from our Sabine Pass LNG facility, located in Cameron Parish in southwest Louisiana. Sabine Pass now has six fully operational liquefaction units, or “trains” as they are known in the LNG industry. Our Corpus Christi LNG facility in south Texas began operations in 2018. Between both sites, Cheniere’s LNG production capacity is more than 45 million tons per year.
And we have room to grow. Our Corpus Christi Stage 3 project is adding more than 10 million tons per annum (mtpa), bringing CCL’s total nominal capacity to approximately 25 mtpa.
