Westmark Credit Union has a history here in Idaho.
Founded in 1954 as Atomic Workers Credit Union by eleven employees of the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, Westmark started with just one location in Idaho Falls. In its earliest days, much of the credit union’s business was conducted in the homes and basements of Board Members and members themselves.
The first official office opened in Idaho Falls in 1964, followed by a branch in Blackfoot in 1975. Over the next several years, Westmark expanded across Southeastern Idaho, establishing locations on First Street and in Pocatello, and growing through strategic mergers with Amidaway Credit Union and Motran Credit Union. By 1989, these efforts had increased membership to over 29,000 and brought the total number of branches in the region to seven.
Westmark obtained a Federal Charter in 1984, becoming Atomic Workers Federal Credit Union, and later changed its name to Westmark Federal Credit Union in 1987 to reflect its increasingly diverse membership. In 1998, Westmark transitioned to a State Charter, becoming Westmark Credit Union, and continued expanding its footprint in Idaho. The credit union opened its first branch in the Boise area in 2004 and now serves members through 15 conveniently located branches, including five in the Boise area and one in Twin Falls.
Today, Westmark proudly serves over 75,000 members and manages $1.6 billion in assets, continuing a tradition of strong community presence and member-focused service across the state.
