Pros

Lots of hours. Free lunch once a month.

Cons

Considering it gets quite hot where I am and quite bright. The pay is not much to be desired. If you work outside building orders you have to keep working. Orders don't stop coming. if you work inside you can stand around doing virtually nothing and nobody in management cares. It is like a complete class system. Insiders and outsiders. Everything done there is COMPLETELY reactive. NOTHING proactive is ever done. Why? because it's work. Don't do anything unless you have to is the silent motto.

Pros

One of the biggest pieces of advice that I will offer my son as he grows older is to find a company like 84 Lumber at an early age and grow with it. You don't need fancy degrees to get started (which I obtained and wish I had never racked up that expense). This is a company where you can move up and do it quickly, provided you show that you want it. You get what you put into it in return. The majority of these poor reviews come from people who wanted something for nothing. This company will invest in you if you show your drive and be a team player. There are an abundance of pros working for 84 Lumber. Fast paced, ability to earn a good wage for most positions, co-workers for the most part are a strong work family, and there's a great potential to see parts of the country that you wouldn't see with other jobs as you relocate and move up the ladder.

Cons

I do believe we under pay the yard personnel in some areas of the country. To get good people to start and stay with the company a higher wage would be nice for those individuals pending their experience. It's slightly tougher for management minded employees to manuever the ladder upwards when they have families, but it is doable. Overall there's really not many cons to the company.
