Pros
- Full time employees receive benefits such as health and dental insurance in addition to a 401k plan, paid vacation days, and paid sick leave. These benefits are not provided (individually or collectively) at many companies out there! - Employees across departments in general are nice, collaborative, and friendly people - If you decide to stick around in the retail, grocery, or Chinese industry, a corporate position at 99 Ranch Market boasts experience at a large name ethnic company
Cons
- General lack of structure in operations from corporate to the store level. The company has been trying to improve in these aspects year after year but continues to instead, regress due to hiring the wrong people to lead the show. - The headquarters are void of any company culture. Major holiday parties are non-existent aside for Chinese New Year. There are no other methods of bringing employees together to boost morale or celebrate what it means to work at 99 Ranch. The management keeps an increasingly tight hold on any budget, refusing to invest in its employees or reward them. It’s sad. - Certain mid and high-ranking individuals in specific departments refuse to do any work or produce quality work. Teamwork, cooperation, and an ounce of effort are non-existent. Some straight up don’t do anything, yet management does not uphold any sort of accountability at all. The CEO doesn't seem to manage much of his company, instead letting his wife and kids run the business. - The company promotes a robotic work culture and the more you challenge the way the company does things, the more likely you are to be fired or oppressed to the point that you quit. - There is blatant discrimination between hourly and salaried employees. This extends into possibilities of receiving bonuses, room for growth and promotion, and room for raises. Certain things are arranged under the table. Hourly = not respected; salaried = respected. The company is not transparent at all regarding any rules.
