Pros

Strong social mission, excellent salary and benefits including two weeks paid caregiving leave, smart and creative colleagues, tremendous resources. AARP has been great about protecting employees' health throughout the pandemic with most working remotely.

Cons

High risk of burnout in some work units, heavy workload, staff spread thin. Unfortunately, condescending and ageist attitudes from some managers. Experience doesn't always get respect nor count for much.

Pros

Great work-life balance/flexible schedules, good pay and benefits (pension after 5 years, 401K), meaningful mission, varied and interesting work.

Cons

Bureaucratic and slow (especially HR), few opportunities for career advancement and difficult to get raises, lots of internal politics, can be poor management depending on team or department.
