Pros

Benefits. Yes that's about it. Of course they are increasing the costs to workers to show a better bottom line.

Cons

There is a significant lack of respect for those who are performing work. An environment of fear. You will be replaced, you will be outsourced, you will be reorg'd out. There have been 4 staff reorg/reductions in the last three years. According to senior management that is a sign of a healthy company. Not quite sure what was the latest book / magazine they read that informs them of those details. Now the cloud and outsourcing is the thing. According to others outside our company, as we can only make decisions after spending millions on how to save a couple hundred thousand. Of course that was "true" a few years ago, but as many companies have discovered the costs are a lot higher and the control is lost for the same, actually less, work. May companies are working to pull resources back internally, but we are just getting ready to dump more folks. A sign of a healthy company recall. Its humorous to me that as we know we are gone, executives want us to work harder and for longer hours, nights, weekends with no real additional compensation, as they are planning and working towards removing us. A fine example of how they think.

Pros

1.5 Billion in US dollar revenue generated by 3,200 employees. Structure so that only one part of the company is for profit and divisions claim non-profit status.

Cons

I was hired from a secure position at Fortune 100 company 6 months ago as a AARP IT remote employee. One week ago while I was visiting the country of Panama, I was told that they would no longer would allow me to work remote. I was hired as a full time remote employee. AARP informed me that if I did not stop being a remote employee that I would have to self-terminate. I refused their intimidation and AARP sent me an email stating that I was "self terminated", (i.e. stopped my employment without my resignation). Using this tactic means I will not receive Florida unemployment, no severance, AARP life insurance stops immediately and medical stops at end of Oct.
