Challenging, but rewarding experience

Pros

Working for Social Mission oriented organization has many rewards. Good compensation for a non profit, great people (for the most part).

Cons

Constant shifting of priorities, lack of promotion/career path-ing. Some old school "more meetings the better" and "plan to plan to plan to act" mentalities.

Mixed experience

Pros

Salary levels are good, benefits are good, physical work environment is also quite good

Cons

There is little work-life balance (corporate talks about it, but line management does little to support it). The membership and volunteer base are not valued by this non-profit seniors membership organization. Additionally, there is little opportunity to increase awareness among staff of the different functions within the organization, which results in minimal corss divisional partnerships and cooperative efforts.

Pros

- Nice benefits, 3 weeks of vacation to start - Great mission, can feel good about work you're doing - Nice offices, nice location with lots of restaurants - Great cafeteria

Cons

- No innovation, employees have been their for a long time and want to do things the same way - Everyone gets incentive bonus regardless of performance - Seem afraid to let anyone go, no one ever gets fired so good people leave and they're stuck with incompetence - If you stay too long, you get "institutionalized" and it's hard to leave - Business model won't survive, do too many programs mediocre instead of a couple programs well
