ABC Imaging is either a great stepping stone or a dead end job depending on what you make of it
Pros
Talented colleagues who are great and easy to work with. The rank and file of shop personnel, onsite print managers, FMs, and Help Desk create a strong support system when dealing with high-pressure, high-stakes corporate clients. Some of the best and most reliable people I have ever worked with was at ABC Imaging. Local management in Los Angeles also did a very, very good job of buffering staff from all the shenanigans rolling downhill from headquarters in Alexandria, VA. You also get to work with incredibly high-profile clients who trend to hold ABC Imaging employees in high esteem and poach for their own staff.
Cons
Client sites get the best equipment which means that shops (which do the volume of production) get very outdated, hand-me-down equipment. Micromanagement from headquarters in Alexandria, VA has a "big brother" feel with EE work order and work production software monitoring everything, even the time spent stapling documents. Staffing in shops can wildly fluctuate between being severely understaffed to being randomly overstaffed if a client makes a quality control complaint. Pay raises are not provided annually and demand incredible persistence to receive and pathways for advancement within ABC Imaging virtually non-existent. Staff who allow themselves to get pigeonholed into working only in one shop location or one client site location are limiting their own opportunities.
