Job is not what they promise - I was hired very quickly and just as quickly realized this is NOT the place to be
Pros
The hours are fine if you want to work 7-8 hours per day with frequent 'no work' days. If you have no self-respect, this is the place to work. (read below comments)
Cons
The work environment in this branch is borderline hostile. I have always worked blue-collar jobs and I know that many times workers can cross the line of impropriety and have never felt the need to report any such occurrences. Guys just talking, having fun, kidding around, etc. = no problem. At ABC, the air was totally different. I personally overheard management complain, using racially derogatory comments, about customers and contractors that did business there. I was very shocked that such comments were made especially in front of a new hire. This did not elicit a good feeling about the company from day 1. I was also directly mocked for my size/weight/appearance, none of which has ever interfered with my work abilities. When I looked around the branch I saw MANY (including my 'trainer') who were more than at the upper end of acceptable weight range! This behavior was often imitated by employees, creating a very UNCOMFORTABLE work environment. On day 2, I discovered they had hired several drivers in the preceding weeks, with each one resigning by day 3. Another caution flag! My 'trainer' was ill-equipped and slept most of the day. I was never provided materials information, nor acclimated to the daily operations of the branch. The 'trainer' would wake up upon return to the branch, quickly exit the truck and hold court in the warehouse openly mocking me and his perception of my work abilities. While I was personal witness to this, I chose to not pursue it and simply concentrate on my job. Despite the above, I did very well and felt confident that I could complete my tasks safely and efficiently. A different person rode with me one day to 'sign me off' and said I would do just fine. Day 5 - I arrive at work and am told to go home - there is no work! I was told this is a rare occurrence and not to be concerned. Day 8 - I arrive at work and am told my services as a driver are no longer needed because "things didn't pan out like we expected and we are not as busy as expected". I was told I could stay on, as a warehouse associate with a greater than $4 per hour pay DECREASE...and STILL likely have days of no work! My very short-lived tenure at ABC Supply came to an end. Actually, it was a blessing. This place will never survive considering the trickle down effect of management's utter disregard and disrespect for both customers and new hires.
