Pros

Pay is best in the business. $100,000+ first year as a road driver. Year two I made $107,000… and took two months off for cancer surgery. Year three I made $129,000. I average 2-3 nights per week in a hotel. Usually only 1 night out then back home the next day. Frequently running turns (home at end of the run). Insurance is free and EXCELLENT coverage. I paid $1,000 total out-of-pocket for cancer surgery.

Cons

Not much life/work balance. Frustrating spending time on the extra board waiting to get a call to go to work, but with more seniority you get less wait time.

Pros

The 4 fours days off was the best and only pro.

Cons

Lack of accountability to the dock workers because of union environment. It is a fast pace environment so you have to quick think on your feet. Large operations so upper management ask a lot from you. You get talked to when somebody is on to them. The system has a lot of errors in it that causes more stress on the supervisor. The process would probably work better if you had two more supervisors (making 4 in total) on the dock instead of of two.
