Pros

ACC gives a lot of freedom to its instructors, though we have been extremely stressed through the pandemic. It is a fast-institution, and ranked highly in many fields compared with other community colleges. Most of my colleagues have been teaching in my department since I started there, ten years ago.

Cons

Classes are parceled out to a fairly large adjunct pool each semester, and while Highest Priority to Hire status almost guarantees consistent and thoughtful course assignments, courses with low enrollment are canceled at the last minute. There is very little compensation for those who lose classes, and ACC does not offer health care benefits to its adjuncts. It pays better than most institutions, but it is still not a living wage by any means, and adjuncts are prevented from teaching more than three courses per semester.
