Buzzwords rule the day

Pros

Exciting portfolio of projects, great benefits and salary. Easy to brag to your neighbors about what your company does. Building the new world trade center site? Yep. Masterplan for the Olympics? Yep.

Cons

AECOM's brand is now a jumbled presentation of buzzwords and that is somehow supposed to differentiate us from our competitors. Collaborate, innovate, expertise? Sweet, rally the troops. Your job is seemingly always at risk. As is somewhat typical in large companies, every couple years you'll start to see your colleagues disappear as management decides your neighbor in the cube next door was the reason a company with over 90,000 people was failing. Implemented ridiculous 9-box rating system where the direct manager assigns a numeric score based on performance which is then changed by a committee of upper-management and HR types who may never interact with you on a daily basis. All to meet a quota. My direct employees scores have consistently been raised/lowered in this manner.

Pros

This is a terrible place to work. The only Pro I can think of is that they're willing to hire literally anyone.

Cons

AECOM has made the list of "Worst places to work" several years in a row based on their Glassdoor score. It looks like AECOM finally decided to do something about it, by faking votes on Glassdoor. Actually improving the company would be too much work, and might cut into their profit margin. Management doesn't listen to the employees, and despite endless announcements of "New projects" and "AECOM has had its best year ever!" the company is perpetually cutting budgets, salaries, staff, and benefits. I've only been here a year, but my coworkers have all confirmed that the company has always been this way. I'd avoid it if I were you.

AECOM. A Farce.

Pros

Ernest worker bee employees. Clean carpets. Air conditioned cubicles. Free water from the tap.

Cons

Poor management that will not listen to repeated ideas to positively change processes within the company. Mottos that appear on the company's website but no real action to support the excellence it claims to achieve. Annual increases for employees that exceed exceptions are routinely under 3%.
