Pros

You can work around some of the best constructing companies around.

Cons

Poor benefits, uncompensated overtime, training opportunities as long as you want to "take the training on your own time". Benefits like health plans got more expensive and company offered HSE contributions were reduced every year. Different divisions provide widely different opportunities.

Pros

Large company with a lots of resources. There are opportunities here but you will have to work to find them. There is potential for growth here if you're willing to sell your soul for it.

Cons

Your career experience here is 80% based on your office and office manager. There are career opportunities here if you're willing to fight for it and play the game. Whether or not your immediate manager is a leader or a follower will dictate the direction of your office. If your manager is a leader and in the Inner Circle of higher management then you can expect more opportunities to present itself to you and your colleagues easier. If your manager is merely no more than a cog in the machine afraid for his or her position then expect to struggle at this company. You will be nothing more than a number here living here in the Lord of the flies. The alternative is to fight for yourself to get into that upper echelon, but its a steep and bumpy road ahead. Desperate management will not hesitate to break the company's own policies and laws in order to cover their behinds. Upper management who are out of touch, micromanage managers because they are not fit for their own roles. I once had a REGIONAL manager who was unfamiliar with the project, step in and try to low ball a project (would have lost money) when the client was actually willing to pay more than the fair estimate we originally quoted because we did quality work in the past. Absolute non-sense!
