Pros

Convenient location near public transportation, cool staff, friends, steady paycheck, gym in building. Have I reached the 20 word minimum yet?

Cons

Share some of the downsides of working at AECOM? "Soul-crushing" and "you're just a number" are the most accurate descriptions of AECOM. When I was laid off last year during one of their many rounds of lay-offs, my manager wasn't even present. I was with a former operating company that just celebrated its 100th anniversary. Post-merger and after months of mind-games, bending over backwards in the name of "AECOM values", and countless wasted hours spent on pointless "team-building" meetings, I was let go. When AECOM fires you, you have 15 minutes to vacate the premises, and you can't say goodbye to anyone unless they're near your desk. Some random HR representative, that you've never met hovers near you until you leave. If you don't leave within 15 minutes, security is summoned.. And to me, a company that treats you that way when you leave never really cared that you were there in the first place. Employees who were with the previous operating company, some for 20+ years, were just unceremoniously discarded. It's heartbreaking. At AECOM, you are a number, not a valued employee with a personality and experience. Just a number.

Pros

* Good pay and benefits * Talented technical staff, iconic projects

Cons

* Several rude and disrespectful people – the most I’ve encountered in my three decades of working. People new to the company start out nice and working collaboratively, then over time the work environment wears on them, turning them into the darker sides of themselves. * Top heavy management – everyone and their brother is a VP or higher, even with little experience. If you’re not in the club, you’re most likely treated poorly and ignored. * Good luck keeping your job if you’re over age 50 – unless of course, you bring in revenue – then you’re still one of the Golden Children. Heavy on Millennials, probably due to cheaper wages. * No employee loyalty or consideration of seniority unless you pull in revenue; support staff treated poorly, unless of course you’re in the VP club. * Siloed cliques – If you’re in a good one, consider yourself lucky. If you’re not, you might consider looking to transfer or work elsewhere. * Overly trendy and hip – speaks disingenuousness * Some of the legacy companies were great to work for until they were acquired, then went downhill over time. My first 7 years at one of the legacy companies was great, then it was mostly negative after that (after AECOM took over). * My advice to current and future employees – don’t give too much to the company – in fact, use it as much as possible to your advantage (like they do to you) because you’ll need to take all that with you when you’re given the boot.

Pros

I was with URS, which was acquired by AECOM. The local management had built an excellent group of employees. Everyone was willing to work hard and contribute.

Cons

AECOM does not care about their employees, only billable hours and the bottom line. Morale is low and good people are leaving. Training budgets were signigicantly reduced, some employees were told they would need to charge their time to PTO if they wanted training. Benefits were cut, inluding 401k match and vacaiton time. Upper management makes decisions and changes without listening to employee concerns. Big changes are announced to everyone at the same time, and no one is able to answer questions. IT systems and support were very poor and getting worse. From an IT perspective, it seemed the company was putting obstacle after obstacle in my way, making it harder to do my job.
