Pros

-Build relationships with amazing kids and their families, often working with them and then their siblings year after year -Coworkers are fun, supportive, and helpful -Team leaders and mentors are always ready to help when needed, but I am trusted to manage my own stuff and not micromanaged -Set my own schedule -Management is extremely supportive in the case of tricky client situations, which are uncommon but inevitable. As long as you are doing your job they will 100% have your back -Yes the pay is lower than if you just offered tutoring on Craigslist, but I don't have to find my own clients, deal with any accounting, or handle the occasional challenging client on my own. The hourly rate is competitive -Coworkers are passionate and enthusiastic, creating an office atmosphere of fun and learning -Lots of training provided and opportunities to branch out into tutoring classes well beyond whatever classes you start out tutoring -Easy to stand out and get raises if you are communicative with clients and tutor well -There is an inherent work/life balance challenge, but if you set reasonable boundaries they will be respected. I've never felt pressured to respond to emails or calls at all hours -Management is transparent about state of the company and how to move up, at least in comparison to other places I've worked -Management asks for employee feedback frequently and is good about considering and implementing feedback -WAY more fulfilling than the corporate grind

Cons

-Upon hiring it can take a bit of time to get a full schedule -Tutoring hours have ups and downs throughout the year due to school schedule (though you can get more hours with other work such as projects, and hours are more consistent if you take on more leadership responsibilities)

Great, Rewarding Job

Pros

I love working at AJ! There's a great support system in place to help new tutors get into the swing of things, yet there's also a ton of flexibility to set your own hours. My team leaders have always been incredibly helpful, and there's a great sense of community among tutors. Our students are often highly motivated, and always incredibly rewarding to work with. AJ's also been very supportive during the pandemic; providing resources that allowed us to continue providing the same high quality of individualized instruction in a virtual format. We've clearly been able to make a big difference during a particularly challenging time for students.

Cons

Scheduling can get a bit complicated, since you're scheduling each family separately, but the benefits of setting your own schedule make the administrative work well worth it.
