Pros

--the environment is relaxed and supportive: the tutors are friendly, the office managers are wonderful, and management really cares about you as a tutor and person --the ability to set your own hours and to work from a tutoring center rather than exclusively in-home (allows you to work back-to-back with no travel time) --they hire almost exclusively from within, which allows the company to expand while keeping its core values intact and also means that there are plenty opportunities for growth --upper management is accessible and open to hearing ideas from tutors --WAY more organized and much better training than other tutoring companies in the area --weekly touchbases with your team leader allow for continual mentoring --the pay is the best starting rate in the area for tutoring

Cons

None that I can think of.

Pros

Great people, easy to get hired, good training, good support by team leaders, mentors, department heads. Scheduling is easy. This is a great job if you want to get into teaching or you're looking for something to tide you over between degrees, etc.

Cons

Other tutors aren't always the most professional, company sometimes scrambles to keep up, supervisors are overworked and underpaid (tutors are just underpaid) which doesn't make it feasible to stick with the company for longer than a year or two. Not sustainable because parents cancel and you don't get paid, but rent is still due.

Pros

As a first job, it will get you into some good habits: managing your own schedule, tactfully handling difficult customer interactions, etc. Also, the tutoring itself is a blast.

Cons

Inane, insultingly repetitive meetings are mandatory. Corporate drivel is tactlessly and endlessly drilled into your head; upper-management does not trust middle-management or employees to think for themselves at all. It doesn't help that you are required to do a lot of busy tasks for free and then told it's for your own good.
