Pros

This job is a great way to earn a decent amount of money, fast. It was a second job I took on to pay off all our non-mortgage debt, especially our student loans. We follow Dave Ramsey, for clarification. About half the staff has worked there at least 5 years. I stayed on about 2 years, and quit when I paid off my debt. This was my second-highest income, next to mowing lawns for an independent small business. I preferred the lawn care work, but this was more hours. Whenever I asked for more hours, I almost always got them. I’m glad I worked here; being debt free has changed my entire life. Few other employees pay is high enough to pay down all my debt so fast, and avoid tons of student loan interest. I guess I’m saying I had a specific, huge financial goal I wanted to reach as fast as possible, and the high pay and possibility of overtime accomplished this perfectly for me.

Cons

You’re timed on ringing up items. You’re talked to for every day you don’t ring up at a speed of at least 1,000 items per hour. You will be in a constant tug of war between your boss pushing you to ring up faster, and the customers telling you to slow down and getting angry at you. We were forbidden from explaining to customers that we MUST ring up that fast. If you don’t smoke, you won’t get as many breaks as the smokers. The management also said silly things, like “if you’re not sweating and out of breath, you’re not working hard enough.” Unless you’re naturally very hyper, you will burn out fast. I stayed until I paid off my student loans, this was a full time job and my second job. I also worked from home in my off hours.

Pros

The pay and vacation is a little better than other places but not worth it in my opinion.

Cons

Do not listen to the "work-life balance" and "caring about the employees" lines they feed you. They don't actually. They don't care about you, at all. They just pretend to. Spending several months trying to talk to upper management led to nothing. You need thick skin and good physical health to do well at this job also. Oh, you hardly ever get to leave when you're scheduled off, so expect later nights if you're closing. Even long term staff is starting to split. Do not expect any sort of decent communication, communication and ALDI don't go together.
