Solid Product, Not So Solid Career Path

Pros

Our product truly is among the best in the industry. I'm proud to be a part of that. The work environment is relaxed for the most part.

Cons

The main downfall of working at Amada America is the fact that it is strictly a Sales-driven company. Other than sales, there is no career path, and no opportunity to grow within the company. You just remain in the same position, doing the same things, with little to no management or encouragement. On top of that, raises are non-existent. We don't even get annual performance reviews.

Pros

Lots of freedom. Mangers are good to work for. The benefits are really good. Health insurance is great!

Cons

You can't plan a personal life during the week. Pay raises don't happen unless they can take it away from you somewhere else. There's very little support with major problems. They refuse to stock parts needed for repairs. We have to tell the customer face to face that they will have to wait 3 months for parts because some anonymous person sitting behind a desk in California has decided that we don't need the parts in stock.

Pros

-I have a good manager who is always willing to help. -All field service colleagues are willing to provide assistance when needed either by phone or travel when more than one service engineer is needed for those larger jobs. -Amada National Service Machine Specialists are very willing to provide support for those more evasive issues.

Cons

-No growth potential. -Never given a review or pay raise until I requested it. I was told early on that you will not likely see a pay raise until fourth year, as you are training on many types and variations of machines and become proficient. Even after fourth year, one would think you could get proficiency evaluations and incremental raises based on performance or at very least to offset inflation. The Employee Handbook states that evaluations are generally given annually. Actually, it seems that if no one mentions evals and pay raises then they will never be brought up to you...Shhhhhhhh!!!!...Be very quiet...if you don't mention Pay Raise or Eval, our employees will not want them!??????? -Very little company information disseminated to the ranks.
