Pros

Besides the obvious of free movies, the best reason to work here is if your a student. Due to the hours of operation it is easy to work around any school schedule whether it be high school or college. It is a great place to learn customer service skills and get your foot into a managerial role, but thats where the pro's stop.

Cons

The biggest con is the extremly low pay for the amount of work done and the hours put in. Some how AMC has found a way to not give its managers overtime by classifing itself as part of the "entertainment industry" in the state of GA. On a weekly schedule when you can not leave until all the customers have left the building its guranteed that you will work more then 40 hours a week with no overtime pay. Evaluations come twice a year with a pay raise only once a year. Since movie theatres are open 365 days a year working holidays is mandatory. Holiday pay is given, however, its not even time and a half. Just an extra $5 an hour. The work schedule can be anything between 7am to 3am everyday of the week. Vacation time is acquired based off of how many hours you work. If you have been with the company for less then 5 years then you acrew vacation time at the rate of 1 vacation hour for every 50 hours worked. Once you have enough time acrewed you then have to look at a film release schedule to see when you can actually take a vacation. As an hourly manager you can forget about possibly getting a vacation during the months of May, June or July.

Pros

Alot of people complain about AMC but when it comes down to it a job is a job, especially in this econmy. The best thing about working there are the free movie tickets. (It's a standing joke that if we didn't get free movies we would'n be able to afford them on our salary!) Next, is the people you'll meet while working there. I've met alot of great people!

Cons

I don't even know where to start! When I first started working there we had terrible management all around. By the time I left we'd gotten a new GM and SM and both of them are awesome. But the middle management type people are even worse than before. The only trhing they cared about was upselling and giving out write ups. Oh you have your phone in your pocket. Write Up. Oh your talking to your co workers. Write Up. Oh there are some popcorn crumbs on the ground. Write Up. Oh you have white socks on instead of black. Write Up. It's insane!! I'm the type of person, if your having a problem with something im doing, I expect you to come and talk to me about it. Don't just go behind my back a write me up for it. We're all adults here(most of us anyway)! Hours: Sometimes I think a monkey puts together those schedules. You could close on a saturday night and open on sunday morning. But the worse thing about it is that its completely unnecessary. There are plenty of people available to open that morning (i.e. they didn't work at all saturday or opened or had a midshift.) They honestly just didn't care. Hours are give out by whether or not the current manager thats doing the schedule (they take turns) likes you or not. If they do you can end up get 30-35 hours a week even when its slow. But if they dont't you'll get bumbed all the way down to 6-10 even whens its busy. Career Advancement: Just forget about it. Since they got rid of the lead position, job openings for Supervisors are really competative. Sometimes skill comes into the equation but mostly not. It's all about who your friends are. Or who wants to (or has been) sleeping with you.
