Pros

decent wage, a week off each year with pay around Christmas / New year casual attire, on-site cafeteria and monthly employee meetings, donuts if production goals are made

Cons

not interested in improving processes that are broken, casual attire but dress-up for the VPs that visit from HQ. mediocre insurance and no chance for advancement whatsoever.

Ametek doesn't care about customers or employees

Pros

The people I worked with were very friendly, hard working, and very talented.

Cons

Ametek's entire business model is "strategic acquisitions". Acquire companies for cheap, cut corners to improve short term profitability at the expense of customers and employees, then use the profits to acquire more companies and fund their dividend to shareholders and stock buybacks. How do they accomplish this? Nonstop budget cuts focused on bleeding acquired companies dry to fund new acquisitions. Ability to serve customers and remain competitive is significantly impaired by lack of resources. Executives are only focused on the current quarter and meeting shareholder targets. So if a budget cut reduces SG&A for the quarter, but causes significant problems for customers down the line, that's fine because they'll figure it out later. This strategy has worked out very well for Ametek's shareholders, just take a look at their stock price. It doesn't work out so well for employees and customers. Chances are you're reading this because your employer was acquired and you're wondering what to expect. Your CEO probably gave some speech about how they're pretty hands off and it will be business as usual. That is a huge lie. Ametek changes pretty much everything without listening to people that have been at the acquired company for decades, and then things inevitably go wrong. They do not treat their employees well at all, either. There's no work life balance. You're expected to work 70-80 hour weeks to make up for your coworkers that quit that they refuse to replace, all while making a substantially below market salary that they refuse to budge on. If your employer is acquired by Ametek, start looking for a new job right away. I jumped ship and have no regrets.

An ineffective corporation

Pros

Salary and benefits are OK

Cons

Only spend 2% of revenue on R&D. Never invest in anything and only spend on acquisition, many of which are not not worth acquiring. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
