Pros

Being a leasing consultant for Amli Communities comes with several advantages. When the economy is strong, the rent discount is substantial, making the apartments very affordable. The apartments themselves are described as fabulous, providing a high standard of living. The job offers various benefits and perks that can make the work rewarding and worthwhile. Additionally, this position can serve as a valuable stepping stone for career advancement, offering opportunities to pivot to other roles or industries. The overall stability and financial benefits in good economic times can be quite appealing.

Cons

However, there are notable downsides to the role as well. During economic downturns, the rental discount becomes less meaningful as the overall cost of living rises. There is also pressure to move into management roles instead of receiving a livable wage while staying in the leasing consultant position, leading to feelings of being micromanaged. The industry tends to hire individuals who may lack proper customer service skills, affecting team dynamics and work quality. Leasing consultants are often at the bottom of the totem pole, seeing less of the financial benefits compared to others. While AI advancements threaten to make leasing consultants obsolete, it still can’t handle the unique and often demanding needs of residents, especially in luxury rentals. Additionally, dealing with difficult and unreasonable requests from residents is a frequent challenge. The difference between base pay and commission can also be a drawback, especially when commissions are not substantial.
