Pros

San Diego office is beautiful, well stocked coffee, tea and fresh fruit. Cafe on the first floor and the food is actually good. There are great people at AMN doing meaningful work, from the sales side to the back office. I have had a great experience with colleagues across departments and had supportive supervisors and managers. Training was very thorough and hands on. Great company culture that inspires you to get involved with various committees or being a “champion” for things like wellness or ethics. Also, great work life balance (perhaps not for those in recruitment). I throughly enjoyed my time with the company.

Cons

Just one: the pay. If not for the low pay, I would still be working for the company. From talking to fellow colleagues across departments, this is a common denominator of why good people leave.

Relentless pace, poor compensation

Pros

Great people, best team I ever worked with, bar none. Hard working strivers, being shorted by the company. Bonuses are not all that much, if you manage to get one.

Cons

Even good people burn out when you don't pay them enough, which AMN does not. They expect too much from too few people. Teams are constantly 1-2 people short which doesn't sound like a lot but makes a world of difference. Forget about life, or positive feedback, you'll only hear from management when you've screwed up, usually because you're overburdened with work. Also get ready to take on more and more and more tasks, new responsibilities, without a corresponding change in pay. Not much transparency with regard to upper management decisions that directly impact the team. Lip service given to career advancement, but ain't nobody got time for that. Expect to be made a scapegoat when things go wrong.

Pros

The 5 week training program as well as the fun promotions that management puts on.

Cons

High turnover rate should be a red flag. Daily and weekly goals are difficult to achieve, especially when other departments handling your files consistently fall through. Sharing a database of applicants throughout AMN's multiple brands greatly dilutes the nurse pool. It also makes it next to impossible to get a live person on the phone since 90% of them block your number to avoid the multiple calls they get on a weekly basis. After you receive your first performance write up, you have two weeks in order to show improvement before you obtain a final warning and then after the final, you have one week after that before you are terminated. NOT ENOUGH TIME TO IMPROVE. The teams of recruiters are extremely clicky and if your personality does not mesh, you will headed down the termination track.
