Pros

Used to be great, we are still holding hope the board will boot Hicham, however unlikely.

Cons

The change once Hicham took over was dramatic. He was a competent CTO but as a CEO he is clueless and terrible. He is holding on to an overinflated stock price while stuffing upper management with his like minded buddies (look at the top management...zero diversity). Long term this will ruin the company, he will just sell it off and blame everyone but himself like he always does. Every week there is yet another horror story about the way he treated someone at a meeting and employees are getting squeezed from all directions...I mean downgrading travel to basic economy and slashing per diem while the stock is high is great! What will you cut once the stock tumble? Perks are gone, STI and LTI have decreased unless you are one of his dudes. He is the smartest CEO ever, wanted to hire a bunch of H1B holders for low pay (nothing wrong with H1B holders, he just wanted to take advantage. I would have bounced to a higher paying job the moment I got my green card, taking my know-how with me). It is so so sad to see how a decent company is completely ruined by ONE PERSON

High-Tech toxic pool

Business Outlook

Pros

* Competitive Salary * Opportunity to work on cutting-edge innovation * Challenging engineering problems

Cons

* Toxic work environment - a climate of distrust has caused the employees feel the need to keep a paper trail or to have meetings recorded to protect them from unfair retaliation. Engineering meetings turn into personal confrontations rather than tackling the actual problem together. * Tenure is valued over integrity - the company is often too afraid to lose know-how even when it hurts morale. For example there is well known gender discrimination from product support management and the company would rather avoid the discussion than fire someone with a long tenure. * Burnout culture - Intense work pace even compared to other similar semiconductor companies. Everything is under constant taskforce status even if it is often artificial urgency.

Pros

You are too busy to think about the mental stress and impossible workload the company demands of you. The new talents that ASM hired in the past 2 years are top quality, but attrition ( both voluntary and involuntary) has left only a handful behind.

Cons

The primary issue lies in middle management. There is a noticeable lack of core skills and the utter lack leadership competency at the senior manager and upper managerial level. Decisions often feel arbitrary rather than data-driven, and there is a lack of accountability for those in leadership roles. They will spring surprises on employees during performance reviews , where I have seen people who are good performers given “Needs Improvement” rating all because their manager didn’t like them or was biased against them. Career progression is not based on merit or KPIs. There is a clear "inner circle" culture where favorites are given the best projects and promotions regardless of their actual output or capability. If you aren't part of that circle, your contributions go unnoticed, which leads to high turnover among high performers. Performance improvement plans are a joke- they are meant to manage you out. I’ve seen an Asm employee suffer from a mental breakdown while on PIP, and the manager used that to dismiss the employee. Hire and fire culture here is real. I’ve seen people being fired just because they wanted to hire someone from HQ to replace the Directors in Singapore. Directions change constantly without a clear strategy, and feedback is often vague or contradictory. The lack of "soft skills" and basic core knowledge at the top creates a vacuum of direction that the rest of the staff has to fill and are blamed if they do not “understand” what are the expectations from the clueless Senior Managers and Directors. The culture in Asia is one that is fear-based- fear of speaking out, fear of direct managers, fear of C Suite ( CEO rules by fear, and so does the CHRO). So these toxic senior managers and above stay comfortable as reports fear to speak out due to retaliation
