Pros

Good benefits make up for low salary. Upper management makes A LOT of money.

Cons

Very top heavy corp with overworked and underpaid workers and uneven goals and policy. Too understaffed to help HLE dogs.

Pros

Most of the staff truly cares about the welfare of the animals and supports one another. The health benefits are adequate when you are allowed to practice self care without scrutiny.

Cons

Unrealistic expectations and a workload that surpasses human ability. Secrecy and hypocritical management. Useless Human Resources department that only serves to protect upper management.

Pros

Since these reviews are intended to provide insight for a potential employee to consider, I can only speak to the type of work I was hired to do. I would imagine those in direct care might have a completely different experience. If you expect to be responsible for implementing programmatic work, innovating or developing strategy, or working with communications, ask for one of your 5 interviews to be with people you will be actually working with on a regular basis. Senior management will not provide the resources, direction or support for you to do your job effectively. You will need to rely on the many lovely but overworked and overempowered staff to get anything done.

Cons

Senior management is not evil but they are in over their heads. They rarely hire from outside preferring to promote favorites. This results in a stagnate environment where people feel they know everything about the job and organization. The external communications philosophy, process and tools are archaic so if your role involves communicating to supporters, media etc - know management thinks the website, email and other communications are there to generate donations only.
