Pros

Remote work environment means you can work from home wherever there is an Internet connection. Pay is above average and bonuses have been good.

Cons

Never forget you are working for an old Bell phone company that has more useless layers of management that are used to working in a "monopoly" phone company environment. Processes to get anything done - from equipment ordering to travel approval - seem to take forever and often need to be escalated through 6 lines of management. Your 1st line manager basically has no power to make any decisions whatsoever, other than to hire and layoff contractors every 6 months as the business either expands or contracts. Depending on the project you can work with great people or terrible people. Since unskilled upper management is never replaced or leaves, skilled lower management people are stuck where they are or leave the company.

Pros

Telecommuting is all I can think about to be honest. Great place to work if you don't mind being stagnant for a decade or more.

Cons

No career path Poor talent retention Offshore outsourcing to people with no talent This place used to be great. Happy to come to work and proud to wear the badge. Talented Engineers were recognized and compensated and now they are leaving because they have no growth path, lack of training and the constant outsourcing to India with less talented people.

Pros

- Very technical staff in AT&T Labs - Good pay and bonus - Excellent work/life balance - Good benefits - Excellent 401K company contribution - People are nice and generally team players. Good culture of service to customer to strive to do the right for them.

Cons

- Constant downsizing - Need to concentrate on long term investment - No growth because business is not growing - No promotion opportunities, almost every 6 to 12 months downsizing of staff can be demoralizing.
