Pros

People leave you alone to do your work limited structure which means managers do not look over your shoulder. If you want to work alone then you might like it there.

Cons

Very limited information provided internally. Strange environment did not feel connected to the company and management did nothing to encourage good working relations. Benefits were sub par salary ok but nothing special. Not a very exciting place to work If you just want to punch in do your 8 hours and leave then you might like it. Had no sense of stability or future of the company. Just because it's a Private company should not mean individual employees should be left in the dark wondering how the business is doing and if there's a future.

Pros

Really smart people, pretty good compensation, great management structure (if you don't like management). Ab Initio is a place where you can make meaningful decisions about what you work on without having a pile of managers looking over your shoulder every minute. I love that I don't have meetings (I probably average less than one meeting per week).

Cons

Benefits are very poor (no 401K match, health insurance with deductibles and employees pay a significant amount every check). The limited level of management isn't what some people like. We never get actual details on company performance.

Pros

- Very selective hiring process means co-workers are talented and personable - Problems are hard and design input is accepted from everyone - Flat structure means no (well, very few) political games - Compensation is quite generous - Product is used by the worlds largest companies to solve really interesting problems - Office is well designed and decorated without being over the top - Meals available in the office are fantastic

Cons

- Work/life balance can become an issue - Privately owned & upper echelon of company is quite mysterious - Employees have no real view into financial performance of company - Company is *very* secretive - Quirkiness of the environment is a treat in some ways and a bit much in other ways
