Pros

Abbvie is a great company. Benefits are the best and compensation is competitive.

Cons

My only cons apply to the QC Microbiology group. Management is rude beyond belief. Employees in the group are intimidated by management so they don't speak up about mistreatment (someone should report them to the Department of labor). Vacation time must be requested 1 year in advance! It is hard to change the culture of the group, management only blames employees for anything that goes wrong, nobody really talks to anyone, everyone sits in their cube to eat lunch, nobody in the group goes to company activities. I was extremely sad to leave such a great company but being in that toxic group was awful. After I couldn't take it anymore I was lucky to find a different job and never looked back!

Pros

People are the best. You can find the best mentors who cheer you on and support you in your career. Ego is not a problem, most leaders recognize talent and nurture it. Benefits are great and culture is the reason most of us stay. Most people are warm, inviting, friendly and motivated people so it’s a great environment to work in.

Cons

Talent review cycle is not very rewarding. HR rules are too rigid and inflexible in some parts of the company. Some areas of the business let good talent walk out the door because not enough career opportunities are rewarded to the high performers. They do too much to placate the average worker who has been there longer, than they do to move up high performers. It creates an endless cycle of high talent turning over often, but they keep the mediocre workers too long. Promotions are too few in certain areas, which they expect linear growth after 7+ years of you doing the same job for a long time. They need to recognize that in order to retain high talent, people are not going to sit still for years and “pay their dues” when another function is offering them growth. Usually to move up at AbbVie you have to switch functions instead of go through the usual annual talent review cycle.

COVID Reveals True Colors

Pros

Good Compensation Structure. Short and long term benefits.

Cons

-Abbvie 'culture' -"We have employees safety first and foremost" could not be more false and hypocritical. The emphasis and importance placed on being in the office for roles that do not require, in any fashion, to be physically present is truly remarkable, disturbing, and really just sad. -In the typical Abbvie elitist mindset, the leaders believe we are above the pandemic and can simply ignore it. It is clear now they believe not being in the office is hurting business (despite evidence to the contrary) and that forcing knowledge employees to go back to normal office culture will solve sales problems that have nothing to do with being face-to-face in a conference room and everything to do with external factors such as.... you guessed it... the PANDEMIC happening! -VP and above self-perception of immortal omnipotent beings yet all are afraid to voice a dissenting opinion to anyone above them. This is a Yes-man/woman environment. -Profits over all else mentality despite an above-average attempt to mask it with patient-centric propaganda machine firing on all cylinders internally and externally. I can't stress this point enough. COVID has clearly revealed Abbvie does not care about anything besides profits with respect to employees and patients.
