Pros

Very stable company, and benefits are generally competitive

Cons

Work life balance opportunities vary greatly depending what team you are on. Typically people promoted internally are paid less than those brought in from externally. I've seen many people leave Abbott and come back a few years later so that they can come back on a higher salary.

Pros

Abbott is a great company to work for. They offer a great benefit package and they do offer the opportunity to learn and grow and move up in the company. They make a good effort to encourage a happy work environment and they offer overtime.

Cons

Abbott cycles managers throughout different areas of the plant so often that the managers never fully get proficient at their role before moving onto another role. Their theory is that you dont need experience in the department you are managing to run it. It does not work because managers set unreal expectations and take time away from employees when the employee needs to explain something basic to management. Abbott's corporate culture makes it impossible to balance work and family.

Pros

The R&D team is friendly and there are some very intelligent and creative engineers working there. Work-life balance is really good and they are accommodating to those with young families.

Cons

Difficult to get promoted past Senior Engineer. As I was on my way out I was told that there were too many high-level engineers and that made it difficult to promote me. Another con is that the department is not very good at staying on schedule. Many of the decisions are driven by a few strong personalities who have been there a long time and stuck on doing things their way.
