Pros

Improving people's lives. Even though Abbott is well its behind competitors in fair compensation, the pharma industry pays well. Abbott has a great benefits package.

Cons

Fair compensation, all talk and no walk, senior and executive management incompetence. Layoffs continue to happen-- silently. Unless you get a dynamite manager, there is NO SUCH THING as work/life balance. You either work 80 hours or find another job.

Pros

Chance to get experience working for a global and diverse Healthcare organization. Opportunity to work in a variety of business units from medical device to pharma. Good networking opportunites with other employees and through professional associations. You'll also get exposure to working with government agencies and industry organizations.

Cons

Quite a few senior executives, VPs, and especially the CEO, adopt the work approach of: "It's all about me and my stock options." Businesses often pitted against each other fighting over internal resources. Bi-polar attitude towards financial measurements and work accountability standards. One day you'd be investing in growth, hiring people or expanding operations, and the next day you needed to outsource everything, freeze job requisitions and reduce headcount. Work/life balance difficult as hours were long.

Pros

If your are in the right division or meet certain diversity attributes you have the potential to receive a wealth of training and experience. You can also feel like you are have a positivie impact on your communities health.

Cons

Pendulam has swung to far on diversity to the expense of good business decisions. If you are in the wrong division (Diagnostics) look out, it's a cuthroat, selfish, environment focused on personal survival and playing the blame game. The compliance related paperwork can smother any creativity, which you wouldn't get credit for anyway.
