Pros

Same benefits as any other big company out there. 401K

Cons

- Work week = is never around the 40 hrs more around the 70hrs! - Very poor management - don't listen to what employees say for years but pay $$$ to a Consulting Firm to identify the same problems the employees presented years ago! - Does not promote within - Director of Quality has no management experience nor step up to the challenge - A few do the work of the many and if you complaint they tell you "mind your own business". - If you discover a mistake and you report it (as it should be), you get yourself a CAPA. - With +/- 50% less people they want better outcomes for metrics and upper management review. - Document Control area is like the Hunger Games! - It has been so bad that management (VP/Director/Manager/) combination has change more than 4 times in 4 yrs! - Every month is a run against time to meet numbers ....at all cost. - The single without family work 7 days a week (sending emails on Saturdays and Sundays) and expect the ones with family to do the same. - There is a mentality of "that is not my job" or "they don't pay me enough to do that" and management allows it. - People lie in Resume, get hired, can't do the job for 2 yrs (asking questions all the time, sick, left laptop at home, "working from home", vacation, etc) and all the mess she left behind is forwarded to someone else and the expectation is to fix ASAP 'cause the are old and to keep up with her load.

One of the worst companies I've ever worked for.

Pros

Profit-sharing and health benefits are worthy additions coming from the acquistion by Abbott Laboratories.

Cons

Favoritism and horrendous office politics are rampant and have been for many years. Opportunities for advancement are slim to none. HR keeps repeating the mantra "We advance from within before hiring from the outside" - not true. Research is virtually non-existent. Risk-adverse environment. Rather than "grow your own"...management buys people/companies with the knowledge/technology they want and lay off/fire loyal employees. People are ignored (unless you are one of the "chosen favorites") when improvements are suggested. I've seen co-workers have their integrity questioned (with full participation of HR and middle management) and, when no wrongdoing was found...no apologies were given to the employees. Insults are common. Non-professional behavior is common. Age discrimination is present. Very few get to go to trade shows. Very few get to go to outside training. Very few get to attend clinicals or interact with customers (either patients or doctors). Travel budgets have dried up. On my only clinical trip - one doctor lamented how poor of a showing AMO had with respect to its competitors. Another customer nearly threw us out because of the horrendous experience they had with the field service and support group. Capital equipment budgets have also dried up. Things are so bad that management didn't even release the results of an internal survey that was taken about a year ago. By the way - James Mazzo has not been the CEO of this company for almost 2 years - he retired and Murthy Simhambhatla is the new CEO (do a search).

Pros

Great benefits- pay, healthcare and overall benefits are great. Good career development depending on your team and if you are willing to seek it out.

Cons

Abbott has a rough work culture. People here know how to work hard, but a lot of times it feels like we never got rewarded for our work. Generally, people are not friendly here and everybody has this kind of "wow things are so chaotic- haha" attitude here. Most people do not like their jobs and it shows because they are not willing to help others and often times choose to make processes more complicated than they need to be because they have no idea how other business functions operate. I worked in supply chain and I felt that management constantly was making business decisions that were not practical and did more harm then good. At one of the sites I worked at, management told us we would be switching ERP systems and the software implementation went incredibly poorly. It seemed that the decision was not thoroughly thought out and we had to do a site wide production stop because the system no longer fit our processes. Overall- I would not recommend working here unless you are passionate about healthcare. The needs of the business change constantly and it's not worth the stress if you aren't particularly passionate about healthcare or science.
