Pros

Largest Canadian owned pest control company. Abell treats employees extremely well and I couldn't be happier. Full Benefits, RRSP program and highly competitive salary with bonus and incentives. Continued education and training. Overall Abell is one of the best companies I have ever worked for and it truly feels like family.

Cons

I honestly don't have any cons

Pros

1. They consistently provide lunch or birthday cake/special events to boost moral for their employees. Usually every few weeks or so. 2. They have short work days usually 8 hours with a lunch unless you’re in the field. 3. They usually close down for a few days around Christmas which is nice if you have some banked vacation hours to give yourself a long stretch of days off. 4. It is a family company so if they like you they will definitely treat you well. Very understanding of personal issues or time off requests.

Cons

1. You’re lucky if you get a performance review done yearly, not that it matters since they don't give raises. Except apparently their 1% cost of living increase that nobody even notices. However, they do have a Presidents Club (opportunity for a bonus) for outstanding sales but the stats are incredibly difficult to achieve and not everyone is eligible. You will never know if tomorrow they'll walk you out the door. 2. No room for advancement. The company operates like a pyramid/ponzi scheme that keeps adding more grunts/route managers to the bottom but never seems to split and offer any new opportunities. This is the true for all branches. The entire company hierarchy is a bottle neck of 5 or so top managers in there various areas and they all refuse to retire or move over which basically prevents any room for advancement anywhere. The sad part is, neither of these 5 individuals will ever reach the top themselves because there will always be an "Abell" who wakes up one day and decides they want to play pest control with the "family" business. 5. They operate on a pay structure that is completely unheard of and probably has been in place since the company started in 1924. Two pay cheques on the same days each month. So if it falls on a holiday weekend you get paid early which means you have to struggle longer between checks. This includes the Christmas holidays (because they close down) and then you get to survive with no money and all your Christmas bills piling up for close to an entire month before being paid again. It's a magical time.
