Pros

Accenture has a great network. You can contact colleagues from around the globe for assistance. There is very much we’re all in this together mentality.

Cons

The Amsterdam office is very much an all boys club. This is changing with the promotion of a woman as CM and more women at Sr. Management. There is also a lack of diversity especially among SI&T and absolutely no clue on how to solve the problem. A lot of people who are not ready to be Sr. Managers are being promoted. Most of which would not past the consultant level at other offices. Most of these guys are mostly clueless, which gives bad moral to others.

Pros

The pay is ok, although the starting rate went down since I've started. The benefits are good - 100% coverage in a lot of areas and you can coordinate your benefits with a spouse to increase coverage. One good thing is that Accenture covers adult orthodontics, whereas most places don't. The people are good there - I have a lot of good friends and wouldn't change that. The shift bidding process is excellent. It's not based just on seniority, but on job performance. That way, if someone who has been there years longer than me is performing very poorly, I still have a chance at a better shift as long as I do well.

Cons

You won't get a promotion unless you are a smoker. Managers are so phony. You have to be a robot to succeed. Those with families need not apply. I begged and pleaded to get a day off to go to my son's Christmas concert and they wouldn't give me the day off. I agreed to take it unpaid or use one of my vacation days. I ended up calling in sick, but I was so scared to go that I stayed home. I'll never forgive them for my missing that. Also, I had 3 meetings about that sick day and was called a liar by my TM.

Pros

If you love a particular technology, then you are the only limit to how successful you want to be. ACN is a huge firm that affords a tremendous amount of opportunity to individuals. I was allowed to travel quite a bit during my analyst years (even overseas), which was an incredible experience. You would be hard pressed to find other firms that allow you such latitude in work location and job function. Management always tended to be supportive of what you wanted to do, especially if it fit in with serving the client. Additionally, if you were on a services-focused account, your work schedule could be pretty flexible.

Cons

Rigid processes, but that is what makes the company so good for clients, and for investors. Also, you tend to get pigeon-holed into a technology, or process pretty quickly. If you don't watch out, you could be three years down the road with the firm and working on a technology that is going to be obsolete in a couple of more years. Although the firm provides a lot of opportunity, you need to be actively managing your own career. The company tends to make training widely available; however, you'll need to be savvy enough to convince your HR rep that you merit the firm spending that money on you.
