Pros

Accenture is a great place to learn about delivery. This is what Accenture does best, delivering tough projects to tight timescales. It is a very hard-working place and people are expected to contribute - Accenture is not a place to "cruise" and tolerance of failure is low. Knowledge sharing is good within the Company, and there is good cooperation between different offices where this is required to serve clients.

Cons

At Accenture it is all about commitment to the client (and the consequent growth of Accenture itself). This can put great strains on the individual worker and there is an unspoken (sometimes spoken!) assumption that 'the job comes first'. The reason people tolerate this is the significant rewards for those who make it to partner (now "Senior Executive"), and the reasonable expectation that ex-Accenture staff are valued in the market place

Pros

There is s huge variety of work available, and you can literally be in one part of the world doing a certain type of work one day and the other side of the world doing something completely different the next. I relish this kind of variety because I get bored very easily.

Cons

As much as Accenture say that they don't pigeon hole people I have not found this to be true, HR take very little interest (or have a complete lack of understanding) of people skills and as a consequence you could end up in a completely unsuitable workforce. Accenture is the type of place however that if you network with the right people and are not afraid to pick up the phone to a senior partner and ask him for a favor you can get moved to where you want to be within the firm and start to really enjoy it. I would recommend anyone who joins Accenture to think of themselves as self employed, treat every other Accenture employee as a potential customer, and network your backside off - if you don't do this you will get no where in this firm. You are not given a support network you have to create one for yourself. That said, this does has the effect of breeding some pretty useful business qualities within our staff. Experienced hires will suffer, especially if they have come from a none consulting background as I did, normally the suffering lasts about a year and you either quit or start to fit in. Do not expect to get a good rating in your first year as an experienced hire, you'll definitely find that there's a old boy network to the rating system on many projects, so you’ll need to develop relationships with the big hitters in your laddering session to get by. Everyone plays the laddering game.

Pros

Ability to be part of a global organization with many opportunities in various industries. Your experience and career at Accenture is what you make of it and the relationships you build. As someone that has left and returned to Accenture, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Cons

Travel and long hours. They also typically are on the lower side on the compensation scale compared to other firms. This is also a very technology oriented firm since all strategy will typically lead to some sort of technology implementation/execution.
