Interesting, meaningful, and challenging work; managers can be a hit or miss but mine were always really good and helped me grow a lot, didn't micromanage, and cared about their employees; developed great programming skills; gained responsibility quickly
Cons
Unfortunately, some of my pros listed above are a function of the team you work on. Some managers really help you develop as a critical thinker/programmer/etc and give you many opportunities to gain responsibility, but I don't think this is something all managers do.
