Pros

- Great group of smart, motivated, and oftentimes young individuals who work hard but also have many interests outside of work. Most people are super nice, helpful, and friendly. - Company culture is casual, though professional when interacting with clients. - Hours are more flexible than most companies. - Generally believe meritocracy drives promotions/raises. Hard work and good results are recognized! - The company has a lot of potential to improve. For example, work hours have dramatically decreased due to more hiring and better retention than in previous years. - Managers are generally helpful and supportive, taking your interests into account with regard to project assignments. - Salaries are probably closer to the bottom in terms of starting salaries, but Acumen gives pretty large wage increases during performance review periods, which are every 6 months. Bonuses are also a big plus.

Cons

- Depending on your projects/team, you may end up working a lot more than 40 hours a week. However, as mentioned previously, work hours have decreased a lot and most employees enjoy standard hours. - Not a start-up, though perks do include free bagels every Friday and a monthly lunch, in addition to some holiday-themed parties/activities. The company is continuously working on improvement and I think employee satisfaction has gone up as a result. - Sink or swim environment, though less so now with better management and more structured trainings. A lot of support is available if needed, but there is an expectation you should be able to figure things out on your own for the most part. This can be a pro or a con, depending on your learning preferences.

Pros

The projects are very engaging with real policy impact. Growth can be quick without an advanced degree. Employees are motivated, and intelligent.

Cons

So-so benefits. Workload can be somewhat unpredictable. Pay is ok for the industry but not very high for the SF bay area. Employees are not very experienced.

Pros

Really interesting and relevant projects. Great access to data. Culture of doing good and meaningful work. Fantastic colleagues and overall fun workplace.

Cons

Working for government clients can sometimes be tedious or frustrating, especially when the client faces other constraints. Additionally, the company lacks sufficient upper management for its size. This leads to many junior staff having insufficient supervision/unreasonable levels of responsibility and also means that the senior researchers are stretched much to thinly across multiple projects.
