The Bad, The Ugly, and The Uglier
Pros
The people are amazing and you'll make some life long friendships here. The heath care benefits are pretty good. Good work life balance and flexible schedules.
Cons
Most of it boils down to bad management and bad executives. The executives are borderline vampires. Fully admitting that they would test each patient more to drain more money from them. The COO/President does not know how to speak in front of an audience. When she does, it is nothing but condescending phrases, lies, or really saying the quiet parts out loud. The whole executive team treats lower level employees as if they are children that understand nothing. COO/President even says that she views her own daughter as someone who can’t operate a computer in a company wide meeting. Which is made even better by her daughter being the same age as the lab staff. If you even attempt to ask a question about their methods or how they can keep up with the goals that are extremely unrealistic they will tell your managers to “keep you in line” which usually results in threats of job security, lack of promotions, and targeted bullying. There is clearly no long term plan for the company that is constantly proven with layoffs and rolling back of benefits. Including announcing financial trouble, and laying off a pregnant woman two weeks before leaving on maternity leave. They also do not acknowledge the hard work of lower level employees and often take credit for it. For example, a project where the entire sample management team did all the work, and yet directors and executives got a large bonus for it and they didn’t even bother to shout out sample management by name. The primary problem with BSM, is the management. Overall, at the company management is a hit or miss. Some are dangerously under-qualified and maintain their position because of brown nosing. For example, some managers do not even have the required degree or anything close to it. Often flat out refuses to do their job and causes the company to often come to a halt because of her attitude and incapability. But no one quite does it like BSM. Frequently accuses staff members of anything and everything even if there are no grounds. And when confronted about it, will say that it is general team feedback instead of individual, but will only bring it up in 1:1s. But they will never do this to male employees though. They will also use very ableist language of accusing of having a bad attitude and a bad look on an employee's face in meetings. Many employees have been forced to reveal that they are neurodivergent because of constant accusations. They will tell you that other team members complained when it's not true, chastise employees for looking at their phones and accuse them of not completing tasks they have proof of completing. Much feedback is based only on how they personally feels about employees at the time. Then uses these to torpedo their career and to boost their own ego. The other managers aren’t directly as bad, but have zero spine and only look out for themselves. None will stand up to or disagree with the bad ones even if they know what they are doing is wrong. The most devastating part is how HR has handled this management. Some have been reported over 5 separate times by separate people, and yet nothing has been done. The law has been broken on multiple occasions, including revealing medical information about an employee to the team and retaliation, and yet HR refuses to do anything. They have said they would multiple times and yet they haven’t. Constantly saying “why didn’t you come to us sooner” about reports and yet employees are left in the dirt when they do report it. HR essentially doesn’t exist at this company because of their refusal to do their jobs. Multiple people have cried at work, had full breakdowns, quit, and gone to therapy because of this behavior. And yes, HR is not a friend and protects the company, but now they protect managers who are clearly creating a hostile work environment. They have had more than enough proof of a hostile work environment for a long time, and still are too chicken to actually take action.
