Pros

The coworkers were solid, and dependable. The team understood that the company was a mess, and so team members actively communicated frequently to avoid issues as much as possible. There was a culture of collaboration, not only within the team but with all on-site staff. When management listened to suggestions, such as switching to a hybrid schedule, we had an increase in productivity and overall satisfaction. Food in the break rooms was great, and having access to coffee was both help and a necessity. Starting wage was fair.

Cons

The biggest issue with Adaptive was management. There was such a drive to adhere to a pyramid structure of power, despite often clear evidence that that system was flawed. There was a significant lack of communication between and from management regarding responsibilities, upcoming tasks, and workflow. One member of management was kept on despite the fact that it was well known she didn’t do any work, and that members of her team and her colleagues were plugging the gaping holes. When this was brought to HR by multiple staff members it was dismissed. Entry level staff are constantly reminded that they are replaceable, while also getting parties and acknowledgements from upper management saying that the company could not function without that role. Initially, the job ladder was non existent and when the person who created a job ladder into the company did so, she was met with incredible resistance from HR. The company is not interested in growing folks inside the company, and consistently pushes profit over product. Overall they need a major structural overhaul, and to really focus in on what has made the company successful and what hasn’t.

Pros

Excellent, motivated coworkers. People are committed to the company mission and want to help patients

Cons

Extremely poor executive leadership. The founders and most of the C-Suite team have no experience in leading a biotech company and it shows. There is no consistent direction, scientifically or commercially. The lack of sticking with direction made my head spin. In particular, products would be launched and then shelved immediately. Plans for personnel moves with new facilities changed every other week. Many of the leaders in the organization were more focused on looking good and their own advancement them on their employees and what was good for the company. Talking to former colleagues, that hasn’t changed. There is also on-going “restructuring” that results in ongoing layoffs across the company. Without some serious reevaluation of the vision of the company and the capabilities, experience and competency of the leaders, this company is on track to fail fast. The company talks a lot about diversity and inclusion, but only supports the concept in a very superficial way rather than truly valuing diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The HR team talks about employee professional development but doesn’t really stand behind the employees or value the development.

Pros

-Coworkers go above and beyond frequently to make sure all work is done, usually going beyond their required duties -Some good amenities -Pay was very good for amount of hours worked

Cons

-Executive level staff make top down decisions which frequently cause conflict or remove the possibility of promotion from within -Not a lot of accountability for anyone on a manager/supervisor and up level -Almost no promoting from within into managerial positions which caused issues in workflow, communication with other departments when projects were taken over -Lack of responsibility from the executive team when crisis occur (laid off staff, including support staff, while taking no pay cuts, and no increase in wages to other staff to account for the additional workload) -Small company to big company shift showed many cracks that were filled with external hires as opposed to long term staffers with previous work knowledge
