I love working here

Pros

High standard of excellence, everyone I work with is smart and consistent, clients are interesting, best product on the market, remote working with offices in many locations, and great leadership on C-Suite and client management. I create my own schedule/ calendar so I can plan my work around my life and live a great life outside of work as well. Business is growing, so anticipating the equity will pay off.

Cons

Doesn't give base pay increases based on performance, (even though they say they do), it's a % calculation. After three years, compensation feels very unfair to me and I feel like Addepar negotiates against me on comp.

Pros

very remote friendly workplace, truly excellent option if you need flexibility. the bar is higher than average in terms of performance and getting work done, but the "where", "when" and "how" are all up to you. I have noticed that parents tend to rate this place somewhat more highly than others, which doesn't surprise me, even though it bucks the glassdoor trend. driving kids around during working hours (for example) is very normal as long as you're responsive. same with doctor, dentist, vet appointments, etc. base comp + talent bar are close to FAANG tier, but the interviews here do not require intense leetcode prep (easy/medium, human digestible problems in my experience; I consider my 3mo study period to have been mostly unnecessary). one final big one: their 401(k) plan supports in-plan Roth conversions, aka "mega backdoor Roth" - roughly tripling what you can squirrel away in a tax-free retirement account. this is far, far more valuable more than a typical 401(k) match, the lack of which I sometimes hear grumbling about.

Cons

"nickel-and-diming" vibes on R&D costs within the last year, as part of a broader strategic push that probably makes sense but isn't convenient in the short term. e.g. limiting the number of people who can be promoted in a given cycle, under-leveling new hires, no options refresh until you've been there 3 years, nixing the $500 WFH office supplies credit, raises in line with inflation unless you're getting promoted. Addepar is very sticky for folks who have been here a long time and stand to benefit from accumulated credibility and stonks - less so for new hires. Now is still a good time to join, but it seems the best time was 5+ years ago. fully remote culture doesn't give you much of an opportunity to connect with your team on a personal level.
