Pros

- Nice perks ( WFH budget , free food in office , gym discount ) - Decent pay

Cons

- Terrible tech stack. The backend is a Java monolith that the management keeps talking about converting into a micro services architecture but they have yet to do it. The frontend is predominantly in ember and it’s an absolute pain to work in. There is barely any support for ember anymore and addepar refuses to adopt a newer framework like react - Terrible management. There has been a lot of management turnover. The CTO , director of engineering and a lot of VPs of engineering have left over the last 2 years. They just got a new CTO from black rock and new engineering middle management. The management is very top down and clueless. The CTO does not value engineering. Coming from a finance background he treats engineers as code monkey. A lot of middle managers have come from AWS and they are just as bad. They overwork engineers and use the threat of PIP to keep them working. There is no understanding of developer experience. If you get an offer and have to work under a director of engineering from AWS at addepar, please run for the hills. They are toxic and don’t care for the engineers - Terrible middle management. A lot of engineering managers have too much on their plate. They also have to manage distributed teams and they don’t put in the effort needed to do so. While I worked there my manger was in Scotland while I was based in NYC and I would barely be able to talk him once every 2 weeks as there was very little time zone overlap
