Pros

Pretty good office environment. At the beginning at least it feels like you're being brought onto the team. They provide a decent set of technology and tools to work with. Had one great coworker who had been there for years and was just a wonderful person to work with. I learned a heck of a lot just from being thrown to the wolves.

Cons

90% of the jobs I recruited for were completely unqualified. Spent weeks working to fill a mid-senior position only to have it finally downgraded to literally a temp office admin position, which was a total waste of time (this really hurts you when you're a recruiter, obviously). This sort of thing was the norm, not the exception. Corporate orders would come in for positions paying literally half of the going market rate. You can get people a little below market, but at half the market rate in this economy, it's just an impossible task. All training beyond first week basic "this is how our computer system works" was through computer modules. No in-depth personal training was provided at all, no mentoring, no professional development (I had asked about all of this before leaving my previous job for this one and was sold a bill of goods). We didn't have an account exec in our office so there were few opportunities to make placements. Made a couple big permanent placements that brought in substantial fees and then let go before commission had to be paid out on them (thanks guys!). They're being merged with/into Modis, and I would stay away until that whole thing shakes out because Modis obviously has the upper hand. They also claim they take a "consultative approach" and to be fair, it seemed that way at the beginning, but it the end it felt like a boiler room. The day before I was let go we were told explicitly to lie to candidates in order to pump them for information and nudge them into positions. I just don't believe that you have to do that to be successful as a recruiter or to be profitable as a branch, and it's a shame they're heading in that direction. I really liked the job itself and actually thought it was going fairly well when I got the ax, but overall I somewhat regret leaving my decent and stable job for what turned out to be a completely marginal opportunity.
